After 10 years of fighting breast cancer, Handler passed away in the year 1989. Handler's dad was Jewish so she brought to Reform Judaism. Handler lived in a safe neighborhood and was a very happy child. As a teenager she made the move to Los Angeles to pursue her acting profession. Handler worked as an actor to earn a living for her family. Handler decided to pursue stand-up acting after she turned 21 when she recognized her story telling abilities. Handler's first job was as an actress on an all-female cast in the Oxygen channel's reality television series Girls who behave badly. The show featured a combination of hidden cameras and practical jokes. The reality series ran from 2002-2005.
